What are the key steps to resolve mold problems?

1. First, hire a licensed Mold Assessor to provide mold assessment and testing. Determining the types of molds will help determine the best remediation process.
2. Based on the findings, minor actions may be recommended.
3. With serious situations, you need to hire the Assessor to create a specialized Mold Remediation Protocol to define what needs to be done and how it shall be done for your specific property.
4. Use the remediation protocol document to solicit competitive bids from mold remediation contractors
5. Hire the most experienced and best-qualified mold Remediator and insist they be on-site during all work activity to:

  • Fix all the conditions causing mold to grow and spread
  • Remove all mold and mold damaged materials
  • Restore the space to its original condition

6. Do not make final payment for mold remediation work until you have the Mold Assessor return to make a final inspection and perform testing to confirm the mold is gone. This is called Post Remediation Verification, PRV, or clearance testing.

How much does mold inspection cost?

Our minimum charge to come out for a mold inspection is $350, which includes a visual assessment, 1 indoor sample, and 1 outdoor control sample. Although, it is recommended for a home of up to approximately 2,000 square feet, a total of 3 air samples should be conducted (2 indoor, and 1 outdoor/control).  So, you can expect to pay between $350 and $450 for a mold inspection from MID. You will receive a copy of the lab results (we send samples off to a 3rd party lab to be analyzed) and a written report that we put together.  Note: some companies do not provide a report written report and you are left to interpret the lab results on your own.
